Free mini Cape Buffalo crochet amigurumi pattern

Here's another tiny version of one of South Africa's Big 5. It was almost impossible to find a pattern for a Cape buffalo, so I had to come up with my own. This one was mostly made from Victoria Matveeva's Crochet cow and bull amigurumi pattern on Amigurumi Space, except I decided not to include the clothing and the horns. Instead, I used the horn pattern from Vera Matrebo's Buffalo pattern on Ravelry. To get that distinctive shape, a pipe cleaner is inserted inside the horns, so you can bend them how you want. Unfortunately you can't see the eyes very clearly on my version, because I embroidered them with black wool. Usually I would have used safety eyes or beads, but this particular creation was going to be used to make a baby's mobile, and I didn't want to include any choking hazards. But I think he looks pretty cute anyway.

Use a 1.5mm hook.

Legs (make 2)
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2: (1 sc, inc) repeat 3 times [9]
R 3: 9 sc
R 4-5: 9 sc (2 rows)
Crochet the second leg, do not fasten off.

Make 3 ch and join with the first leg.
R 6: 9 sc on the first leg, 3 inc in 3 ch, 9 sc on the second leg, 3 inc in 3 ch (opposite side) [30]
R 7-8: 30 sc (2 rows)
R 9-10: 30 sc (2 rows)
R 11: (3 sc, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
R 12-13: 24 sc (2 rows)
R 14: (2 sc, dec) repeat 6 times [18]
R 15-16: 18 sc (2 rows)
R 17: (1 sc, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
R 18: 12 sc
Fasten off.

Arms (make 2)
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2: 6 sc

Fold the top opening flat and 3 sc through both sides.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Free mini leopard amigurumi and crochet pattern

This little guy is only about 8cm tall, but he's super cute. To make him, I used a variety of free patterns found on the internet as references, and I'll credit them below.

First, using a 1.5mm hook, I crocheted the head, body, arms and legs in yellow from the Little Amigurumi Kitty pattern by Mari-Liis Lille from lilleliis.com. The ears were taken from the Tiny Lion Amigurumi pattern from Amigurumi Today. For the white muzzle, I used Jessica Doering's Tiny Teddy pattern found at Neogurumi

For the head:

Crocheted from top to bottom.

1: 6 sc in a magic ring [6]

2: Work 2 sc in each st around [12]

3: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [18]

4: (Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [24]

5: (Sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [30]

6: (Sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [36]

7: (Sc in each of next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [42]

8-12: Sc in each st around

13: (Sc in each of next 5 sts, sc2tog) rep 6 times [36]

14: (Sc in each of next 4 sts, sc2tog) rep 6 times [30]

If using safety eyes, fasten them between rounds 10 and 11. Insert the first eye, then count 9 holes to the left and insert the second eye in the next hole. Close the washers.

Fill the head with fiberfill and add stuffing as you go.

15: (Sc in each of next 3 sts, sc2tog) rep 6 times [24]

16: (Sc in each of next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep 6 times [18]

17: (Sc in next st, sc2tog) rep 6 times [12]

For the body:

Crocheted from the bottom up.

1: 6 sc in a magic ring [6]

2: Work 2 sc in each st around [12]

3: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [18]

4: (Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [24]

5: (Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) rep 6 times [30]

6-7: Sc in each st around

8: (Sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog) rep 6 times [24]

9: Sc in each st around

10: (Sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog) rep 3 times [21]

11: (Sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog) rep 3 times [18]

Stuff the body and add stuffing as you go.

12: (Sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog) rep 3 times [15]

13: (Sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog) rep 3 times [12]

Sew the head and body together.

For the arms: (make 2)

1: 6 sc in a magic ring [6]

2: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) rep 3 times [9]

3-6: Sc in each st around

Fill the tip of the arm.

7: Sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog [8]

8: Sc in each st around

9: Sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog [7]

10: Sc in each st around

11: Sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog [6]

12: Sc in each st around

Sew the arms quite to the front, between the head and body.

Attach the arms with a few stitches to the body to keep them in place.

For the legs: (make 2)

1: 6 sc in a magic ring [6]

2: Work 2 sc in each st around [12]

3-8: Sc in each st around

Fill the tip of the leg.

9: (Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) rep 3 times [9]

2: (inc) repeat 5 times [10]

3: (inc, sc in next 4 st) repeat twice [12]

4: sc in each st [12]

Finish with a sl st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

For the muzzle:

1: 6 sc in MR [6]

2: sc inc x 6 [12]

3: 1 sc, sc inc x 3, 3 sc, sc inc x 3, 2 sc [18]

FO with long tail. Sew to the face, adding some stuffing before closing.

For the tail:

1: 6 sc in magic circle in black yarn

2-5: 6 sc

3-20: 6 sc in yellow yarn

Finish off and sew to body.

I made the eyes by making knots out of black yarn (I'm terrible at French knots) and sewing them on, I embroidered the nose and mouth with black embroidery thread, and I sewed on the whiskers with ordinary black sewing thread. Lastly I used an earbud (Q-tip) to paint the spots in black acrylic craft paint. I also used a toothpick to tidy them up.

Unfortunately I don't have a good quality camera, but here's some more shots of the little amigurumi leopard:
